Ran is the goddess of storms and the wife of the sea god, Aegir. Together they had nine daughters, representing the waves of the ocean. Ran is known for sinking ships and collecting drowned sailors in her nets. Those who drown at sea go to neither Valhalla nor Hel. Instead they are taken to Ran’s hall at the bottom of the ocean.
